Wordpress versus Dreamweaver
In the late 1990’s I self taught myself Macromedia Dreamweaver. I did not become an expert by any means, yet could still put a half respectable site together when needed. The thing about being an amateur web designer, was that it took up so much valuable time, time that could have been better spent marketing and selling. Is Wordpress better than Dreamweaver? We’ll have a look at a few things that any Internet Marketer should be aware of, before spending too much time learning one or the other.
Adobe Dreamweaver
This glorious piece of software has changed quite a bit over the years, and it is still seen as the industry standard in fully customisable web design. You can do absolutely anything with it and create visual masterpieces too. However, you would need to invest in a traditional educational course or hundreds of hours on the job training in order to become an expert. Having intermediate knowledge of the product would still require dozens of hours practice to create something that would probably only just get you by.
For a medium to large scale business, this would not be an issue, because they would have the deep pockets to outsource this work, or even have their own in-house design team to put it all together and maintain and troubleshoot.
Chances are if you are here reading this, then you are not in an establishment like this, yet rather a lone Blogger or Internet Marketer. Possibly you work with a small team, and are looking for ways to make your online presence more efficient and professional. Enter Wordpress.
Web Design In Wordpress
Usually when you hear the wordpress being mentioned, you automatically think blog. Well, yes, most wordpress sites are a dynamic blog, with the main index page showing the latest post. What I have noticed more and more of late (and have been doing with my own sites), is to create your wordpress site so that it appears to be a more traditional static site, with pages and a navigation bar. There is also the option to have a blog set up as one of the pages, where your fresh content is displayed. So why is there a trend towards this?
People are now creating sites this way because they can get up a completely new and fantastic looking website within hours, instead of days or weeks. Best of all you do not need a University degree to build an amazing looking site, and it can also be done more often than not for under $100, and that is only if you purchase a premium theme. There are thousands and thousands of free wordpress themes available online, and most people will take advantage of that.
Wordpress Plugins
Perhaps the most powerful feature for the wordpress designer, is the ability to use third party plugins, to pretty much do anything you could imagine not only from a design point of view, yet from a Search Engine Optimisation point. These same plugins are freely available, and are easy to integrate into the wordpress admin panel. You do not even have to FTP these plugins across to your server any more, as the latest versions of wordpress allow you to install directly from the admin panel. This goes for many themes as well.
Is Wordpress Better Than Dreamweaver
From an Internet Marketer’s view point, wordpress is by far the most powerful tool I have at my disposal, and the most effective one as well. I can build a sales letter or a complete site in a couple of hours, and add a new page to a site within minutes. The SEO advantages see my sites getting indexed and ranking well within days, rather than weeks or months too. The fact that is such an easy tool to master makes it even more attractive, and any Internet Marketer or small business owner who does not know how to use it, should be making it a priority to do so.

Clint,
Thanks for your post.
I am in the process of trying to hire a web development company to redo our FrontPage website, http://www.rbdata.com and have been going back and forth Dreamweaver vs WordPress vs Joomla.
We have spent a lot of time getting our current website to rank highly for some very competitive keywords and I would hate to see that work be lost as a result of the conversion.
I am definitely leaning towards WordPress since I suspect it is much easier to use than Dreamweaver and I hear that Joomla does not support .htm extensions.
After looking at your site Rick, Wordpress would really be a great asset to you.
