What Is Social Media
Social Media is the buzz word right now, even Oprah is on to it. Twitter, Facebook, Digg and Bebo, there are plenty of sites and new ones seem to be popping up every day. Do you or your business need to be involved in Social Media? If you want to not only survive yet flourish in this recession/depression than hell yes you do. Social Media is here to stay, and your online business just like any other business needs to adapt and build long lasting relationships with your database.
Knowing that you need to get on Social Media sites, it is important to know that you will need to build a profile or persona that will allow you to connect with others and you can be recognised and known for that profile in what ever niche you happen to be in. You can have more that one online profile for different niches that you may be in, although for now, let’s look at building just the one profile.
There is no right or wrong way to begin building a Social Media profile, although there are some techniques and strategies that are far more effective than others. Firstly, are you going to build a profile around your name like I have, or would you prefer to build a profile around a product or niche? Either is fine, and works well for different markets. If you look around the Internet, you will see that I go by the name of clintmaher on pretty much every site out there, bar a couple which I signed up to years ago when I had less of an idea what I was doing.
Think of it this way. You don’t see Toyota calling themselves something on TV ads and another thing in a magazine advertisement so why should you be any different. Even if you are not sure of who you want to be online or what you want to be known for, keep everything the same.
Which Social Media Sites To Join
There are many sites nowadays that you can begin building a Social Media Profile on, and I want to suggest to you several that you can go and join right now, even if it is just to secure your profile name so that no one else picks it up. Have a look at some of the ones below and check out my profile on each. Feel free to add me as a friend on each site if you can and say hi.
That is just a few to join and these ones are very important for an Internet Marketer to be known on, although not necessarily be known for being an Internet Marketer. The last thing you want to do is go on these sites and begin trying to spam your articles and your products to other people on there. That is not what Social Media is about, and if you try to annoy others on these sites with spammy content, then you will not be accepted in to these online communities. I will give you more strategies later on how to discreetly let people know about what you have to offer without being in their face.
So basically, building a Social Media Profile is about building a solid online reputation on several or more sites, and also a way of having fun at the same time. It is important to get in and participate, just like you would in any activity in life.
