On Page Search Engine Optimisation
Many people and businesses that have a website or blog have no idea what Search Engine Optimisation is and why it is so important, so today, I want to share with you some simple on page SEO tips that will have you ranking a lot better on the search engines, including Google. Getting better rankings means more traffic to your site, and for many of us, that means more sales. What I am giving is an overview of SEO techniques only, and will in further posts expand on how to implement these strategies to good use.
Inserting Meta Data
Meta Data is putting things such as Title Tags, Keywords, Description and some other information into the coding of your site. When you look at a website or blog through a browser you will not see this information, except the title tag which is displayed in the top left of your browser. The information is purely to let the search engine know what your site or article is about so that it can rank you for that information that you supplied.
Meta Data used to weigh a lot on the position that your site would rank, although for several years now it has not been seen as overly important. My advice to you is that it is still very important, and that it is a must for any web page. You will not be penalised for using it, so you have nothing to lose. In saying that, if you were to spam your meta tags then you could indeed be penalised, so white hat techniques only please.
Heading Tags
The use of heading tags like the one above is very important for on page SEO, as it tells the search engines that what ever that is written underneath has to do with the heading, and it will be seen as more relevent. Normally a page will have H1 tags as the main headline, and then H2 and H3 tags depending on the relevance of the subject as you go down the page. When you make heading tags, ensure what you write in the following paragraph that it is about that subject.
That’s it for part one of Simple On Page SEO and I’ll be back soon with a couple of other very important Search Engine Optimisation strategies that will without a doubt improve your rankings on the search engines. And let’s be clear, it’s Google that we really want to rank on because that is where the majority of web searches are made.
