What Is Your Internet Marketing Niche

Internet Marketing can be a tough gig, and I would suggest the majority of people doing it would not be making much if any money. Now there can be a multitude of reasons for this, including incompetence, competing with a saturated market, not putting the effort in, and also having outdated information. There is something though, that if you choose correctly, your chances of success improve greatly. I am talking about finding an Internet Business model that works for you.

Internet Marketing Business ModelIs that it? Yes and no, let me explain. For the last couple of years I have been predominately an Affiliate Marketer with some varied success. This was a great model to become involved in the scene, as it gets you in on the cheap and you can learn a lot about a tonne of useful and also useless information. There is also a thousand different methods and strategies to use Affiliate Marketing, and when you try to use more than a couple, you start to get even worse results. Talk about diluting your focus. Becoming unfocused is not confined to this model, it can be part of our entire lives.

My biggest issue with Affiliate Marketing however, is that there is always a Merchant above you, and that you have to play by their rules. These rules can and do change overnight as I know only to well. You may well spend thousands of dollars per month on advirtising and make the Merchant and yourself ten times your investment, only then to not get paid by the Merchant when it comes to pay day. Sound familiar?

Apart from this challenge, it is also the fact that you have no control over the product you are promoting, and for my personality type, I like to ensure that if I sell something, than I have to be able to sleep well at night knowing that I made a sale and the purchaser got more value from the product than what they paid for it. After all, make a sale one with a customer, they are far more likely to keep spending their money with you for a long time if the experience was good for them.

So in my case it was clear Affiliate Marketing was no longer for me, so where to from there? Finding an Internet Business model that works for you can actually be quite difficult, and I was no different. What actually are some Internet Marketing business models first? Everyone has different ideas on what an IM Business model is to, these are my thoughts only.

  • Affiliate Marketing
  • Product Creation and sales
  • Directories
  • Search Engines
  • Taking offline businesses online
  • Arbitrage

That’s just a few examples. Out of the above list, two really invoke some passion in me, and they are product creation and taking offline businesses online. Both allow me to get my creative juices flowing, and also allow me to provide great value for money and long lasting customer relationships. It makes good sense to do a job once, and reap the benefits for years to come. That is what is so special about Internet Marketing, providing you do it correctly.

Whichever Internet Marketing business model you choose to follow, you must ensure that you enjoy doing it. Too often we choose something because it appears easier or more lucrative. At the end of the day though, you will usually make a tonne more cash when you are doing something that you really love doing. If you are a one man Internet Marketing band and you not only want to survive but flourish as well, then finding the right model is imperative.

I have batted on a lot about myself today, although I know many of you face the same challenges every time you get behind your PC (or Mac) screen, and at times it is easier to give up than to forge ahead and find what is right for you. Once you do find your niche, everything becomes a lot more exciting and a lot of opportunity will open up for you in the strangest of places.
